In the early 21^st century large Tech companies such as Facebook, Google, Apple and Amazon dominated the internet.

The rapid demise of these companies in the late 2020s was completely unforeseen at the time.   Within a few short years, billions of users migrated to small independent, democratized platforms in a movement that became known as the “The Great Flattening”.  The revenues of traditional Tech companies plummeted as users were sensitized to the deleterious effects of Social Media.   Data mining of personal information for profit rapidly became an unacceptable practice worldwide.    

The slogan “Take Back the Wire” became a rallying point for people worldwide as they collectively took technology back into their own hands.

TAKE BACK THE WIRE

They harvest your mind  – to feed the hungry algorithm

They tie our hands – shackled to consumerism

Ya never know  – what kind of trick they play

Keep us staring at our phones every day

The day the we decided that we had enough

We stopped giving in and we called their bluff

We put away the techy toys and what did we see?

People better people when they not on a screen
